Global University Program in Health & Healthcare Architecture (GUPHA) aims to provide a platform and moral support for the various university departments that specialise in design for health and healthcare to meet, exchange and discuss beyond approaches to educational structures, curriculum or standards of facilities towards research, collaboration and publications. GUPHA seminars/forums and meetings have been held in universities where the UIA-PHG meetings are held or on their own as educational programmes. Directors Prof Dr Ray Pentecost and Prof Dr Long Hao, assisted by Dr Zhipeng Lu, are the current managers of the program under UIA-Public Health Group from 2023-2026 (https://www.uia-phg.org/gupha).
Previous
GUPHA Forum...............
The UIA-Public Health Group (PHG) Workprogramme was established in 1955 within the Union of International Architects (UIA) with a vision that health can profit from the dedication of architects to provide efficient, safe and aesthetic healthcare buildings and an environment that can contribute to more rapid healing of the patients as well as an improvement in staff operations and satisfaction. UIA-PHG shares its knowledge and experience not only within the group but also with other architects, engineers and consultants, healthcare managers and providers, healthcare organisations and governments, as well as to the general public. It supports and initiates research projects that contribute to better healthcare buildings and environments. In 2022, post-COVID-19, the vision of UIA Public Health Group added a new dimension that can help members of the design professions understand and accept their responsibility to create places that protect health, develop better health, and restore health once it is impaired beyond healthcare projects. The UIA-PHG believes that every project by every professional in every practice impacts the health of the people who use it, which means that the work of the Public Health Group is relevant and useful to every architect in every Member Section of the UIA – and the world. The UIA Public Health Work Programme Directors are Prof Dr Pentecost of the USA and Prof Dr Long Hao from China. UIA-PHG Secretariat is located at the Center for Health Systems & Design at Texas A&M University in the United States, with Dr Zhipeng Lu as the group’s Secretary. GUPHA is an event in Region IV of the UIA. UIA-PHG Director for Region IV is Tracy Lord (Australia) (Source: //www.uia-phg.org/.)
