"DESIGNING WITH NATURE AS APPLIED ECOLOGY"
Keynote :
Dato' Ar Dr Ken Yeang
Dato' Ar Dr Ken Yeang is an architect, ecologist and author known for his pioneering work in the field of ecological design and sustainable architecture. Yeang’s design approach involves integrating ecology-based principles into architectural structures such as applied ecology, hence promoting environmentally sensitive, carbon neutral, and energy-efficient solutions. His innovative ideas focus on creating buildings that harmonise synergistically with nature while addressing contemporary environmental challenges. He is among the few architects who do research, design, build and write. Ken Yeang was trained at the Architectural Association (London). His Cambridge doctorate was published as ‘Designing With Nature’ by McGraw-Hill (1985) (Source: https://trhamzahyeang.com/ken-yeang/).

Synopsis:

Successful healthcare projects require an Owner who can drive success. It is the view from the top. What happens at the top and who is at the top? In the case of projects and especially in the case of healthcare, the top is the Owner. The person who represents the Owner may have different management titles, and more interestingly may come from many backgrounds, origins and paths. That person may be an architect, an engineer, a program manager or an administrator, CFO or of a different background. Healthcare projects are particularly complex. The success of a project, in my opinion, is dependent on the Upstream Manager, the Owner. Given the different possible backgrounds, what are the most important attributes of successful management and how can they be distilled into five memorable categories. This focus is generally not part of any curriculum in any architectural or engineering school. There are programs that inform about contracts, or scheduling but no program to teach how to be a successful Owner, or even the role of the Owner. This talk is that part of the story. How to be a successful Owner and the successful Owner processes. And for the architect of record or an engineer of record, this is what to expect from and Owner and how to guide your Owner toward success.
